Pokemon Moves.
There are 3 types of moves in the Pokemon games, the first type is Status inflicting moves, which have two ways of working, they inflict a Status on your Pokemon, being Confusion, Burns, Sleep, Freeze or Sleep and the other way they could work is by lowering or raising Stats, some moves work by doing both.
The other type of moves are Attacking moves, these are the most common moves you see, they focus on inflicitng damage on the opposing Pokemon, this category has two subcategories being Physical Attacks and Special Attacks. Physical attacks reside on doing damage to the opposing Pokemon based on your Attack Stat and their Defense Stat. And Special Attacks focus on doing damage taking your Special Attack Stat and your opponets Special Defense Stat, while some moves can be based on your Special Attack but, doing damage on your opponents Defense Stat, being for example Psyshock.
Some Attacking moves also have a chance of inflicting Statuses on your opponents Pokemon or even yours. but they only have a chance and that is determined by a percentage fixed into the move itself.
Attacking moves deal more damage when used by a Pokemon that shares the same typing as the move being called a STAB Move, that means Same Type Attack Bonus, and is a small boost the move gets, that way inflicting more damage when used.
And the last type of moves covered are Weather changing moves, now this are just four moves, and they are Sunny Day, Rain Dance, Sandstorm and Hail, these do one thing and one thing only set up weather inside a battle, the weather can affect a Pokemon Battle as well, while being in Rain Dance and Sunny day, Water and Fire type Attacks become more powerfull respectively and becoming less effective the other way around. Some Pokemon even take advantage of weather with either Abylities or specific moves that have low accuracy on a normal situation, but have their accuracy improved in the right weather.
That is everything you need to know about Pokemon Moves.
